Books as Art Practice

"Books as Art Practice" grew out of a simple realization: making books can feel a lot like painting graffiti on trains.

You make the work, send it out into the world, and lose control of where it goes. A train leaves the station. A book ends up in a stranger's bag, on a shelf in another city, in the hands of someone you'll never meet.

Since founding Other Editions in 2017, SerraGlia has used publishing not to document exhibitions, but to replace them. Books become a way of circulating ideas, creating unexpected connections, and reaching beyond the usual spaces of contemporary art.

This pocket-sized zine gathers eleven short reflections on books as an artistic practice, drawn from years of making, publishing, and observing. The third edition includes revised texts and updated images.
